CONTEMPT PRIOR TO INVESTIGATION

There ought to be felt upon the collective conscience of any society
desiring lasting peace a burden of proof "There is a principle which is
a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and
which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance - that principle
is contempt prior to investigation."  I would discuss its validity
with anyone who cannot come to terms with its meaning.  This statement was made use of by Scott Turow in his "Burden of Proof" very effectively.... until recently I had believed him to be its originator - however should one controvert this, be advised I already realize my blunder.  I checked out an extensive www page, upon which my eyes feasted for many hours...(the ideas and the insights gained were awesome - the experience enlightening).  Originally it was  statement by a man of faith exercising his free conscience, and very convincingly, arguing for all men to do the same in seeking to rationalize intolerance of others' beliefs or ethics.  Well, go there and feast...you won't walk away unsated and you will never think again within your narrow confines...you know the ones that steal the truth and light and love and all that is good in life from your grasp!  Just key in those resounding words:  CONTEMPT PRIOR TO INVESTIGATION....you'll not rue the day you do.

What has a one from the grand isle of Kaui to do with a mortal such as I....one who only sampled your kinsmen's paradise for 3 glorious years?  (I was stationed at Kunia on Oahu for that length of time and never, since leaving there, have experienced such adventure, excitement, nor enchantment in all my worldly travels.  I visited Hawaii and even encamped atop Kilawea (spellling) before she became violently active again, spending 3 wonderful nights and two days there in a "religiioius retreat" while on leave.  The utter beauty and magnificence of it all, and the grandeur of Oahu's interior + Makaha in the winter when those big ones roll in was quite a plate full.  How do you stand it full time for a lifetime?

There was a time when I was a hater of my fellow man.... I "drew a circle in the sand" and within it I allowed the world inside...until one day a "kind" of people no longer pleased me and I found considerable intolerance for them.  My solution was to push them to the outer limits of my circle and commenced the drawing of yet a newer (smaller) that effectually locked out those undesirables.  Trouble was (and I did not realize it at the time all this was happening I could never escape the domains I myself created within my circle of acceptance) this process continued throughout my lifetime...until a few years ago and I found myself with myself and no others within my final circle - my domain.  I had indeed been guilty of contempt prior to investigation in my rationale....and I stood alone in the world without a friend, and I had no moral compass to enlighten me as to why this happened.   Why...I was the good guy in the scheme of life, wasn't I?  Through a terrible act of attrition that played me right into the jaws of hell, I in a swoop fell landed in a nether zone for a substantial number of years.  During this "subatical" I found something for which I had been searching my life long...an honest conection from my mind to my spirit and my soul...It didn't happen overnight-no!  It took years of research in scientific data that was forcefed me in my secular schooling as a child, mixed with a very healthy new dietery food - God's own words (yeah, the Christian version), and tomes of the philosophic offerings from Greek, Roman, and other later and perhaps more influential and powerful men of more recent times.  The admixture was the most challenging and life altering event in my life-10 years of study and intense interest in all kinds of men's drifts, mixed with a healthy stew of the dregs of the earth, I suddenly found myself staring life dead in the face of the reality the circle had vanished and I had been set free upon earth for the first time in memory.  My quest is not to prosthelize, but to continue learning to learn from every man, woman, and child who will take the time out of their own precious lives to "educate" my mind....I believe, as one of those sages said that "the kindest thing one human can do for another...is to LISTEN TO WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY.  amen.  finis
